| Ceiba
Adventures was launched in 1985 with unique
itineraries to the famed Maya ruins in southern
Mexico. That same year, our river trip offerings
was initiated on the Rio Usumacinta, the river
that forms the border between Guatemala and
Mexico.
Ceiba quickly became a well-respected travel
outfitter in the region and expanded with
a full range of adventure offerings in whitewater
trips, Maya archaeology, overland tours, birding
excursions and our exclusive caving trips.
Since then, Ceiba has made many first descents
on rivers throughout southern Mexico, Belize,
and Guatemala. We also have pioneered some
of the deepest and most technical caves in
the western hemisphere. This experience has
prompted the adventure film industry to utilize
Ceiba’s expertise to coordinate, organize
and assist in many film projects, including
Emmy Award winners, over the last two decades.
Our philosophy hasn’t changed since
the beginning. All our trips emphasize conservation
of both the natural environment and regional
ways of life. We strive to intensify the traveler’s
experience through contact with local cultures
and comprehension of natural wonders. Our
well-laid out itineraries are designed for
small-group travel, and each is carefully
designed to capture the very best in our destinations.
Our base of operations is in the cool pines
of Flagstaff, Arizona, the jump off point
for trips into the Grand Canyon region. We
operate as a travel agent for river trips
and adventure travel tours in the Grand Canyon.
We have decades of experience in arranging
and guiding private journeys in the area.
In 2005 Ceiba Adventures expanded its services
into the Grand Canyon river equipment outfitting
arena. It seemed only natural with our 25
year foundation in Grand Canyon and managing
similar operations in Southern Mexico in the
1980s and 1990s. The National Park Service,
USGS Flagstaff, private boaters, river outfitters,
independent scientists, and the film industry
continue to utilize Ceiba for Grand Canyon
outfitting. Our services include river equipment
rentals, transportation/shuttles, complete
food packing and menu planning, and overall
general logistics.

The joy of discovery is in our blood, active
adventure travel is in our hearts, and we
invite you to celebrate life with Ceiba. We
look forward to hearing from you!!
Ceiba’s
Flagstaff Crew:
President Scott Davis’s extensive journeys
throughout Mexico and the Maya World have
established the foundation for Ceiba’s
trip offerings. His many years of river guiding
experience, 250+ river trips on the Colorado
River, and first descents in Mexico, Guatemala,
and Belize have all helped spawn his position
as River Coordinator for many adventure documentaries.
Scott has worked as a sea kayaking guide,
caving and climbing instructor, dive master,
search and rescue liaison, and continues to
be a very active river and mountain bike guide.
Scott’s humor, fun-loving personality,
endless energy, experience and extensive outdoor
knowledge make him a sought after expedition
leader.

Rachel
Schmidt is most definitely Ceiba’s
“Jack Of All Trades,” and
she wears many hats here. With a degree
in Geology and extensive international
boating and guiding experience, her resume
is simply impressive. She continues to
work as a full time guide, keeping her
schedule busy with leading river trips
in Grand Canyon and mountain bike trips
in the high mountains of Colorado. Her
consummate patience, knowledge, cool-headedness
under pressure, easy laughter and infectious
smile all make her the epitome of the
Guide’s guide. |
Courtney
Giauque recently spent three years
working on an intensive fish study in Grand
Canyon, which entailed many river trips on
the Colorado River. When the fish contract
was completed, Courtney joined the Ceiba team,
where her Spanish language skills and international
M.B.A. come in very handy. When not in the
warehouse or office, she’s probably
in Mexico honing her surfing skills.
Scott Pettitt brings to the
team a history of river program management
in an educational environment, and warehouse
and facilities development. He also has a
professional background in river guiding,
rock climbing, and sea kayaking adventures
in the US and Mexico’s Sea of Cortez.
Scott’s passions include mountain biking
and boating in beautiful and fascinating landscapes.
