During the summer of 2019, 63 scientists, artists, authors, journalists, academics and graduate students spent 70 days retracing John Wesley Powell’s 1,000 mile journey on the Colorado River. The expedition’s goal was to document and explore the things that stayed the same or changed since Powell was there 150 years ago, and what the next 150 years will hold for the Colorado River basin if we don’t heed their and Powell’s on-the-ground observations.
Ceiba was proud to be an integral part of the journey. Here are some words from the expedition leader:
When we started planning the 150th Anniversary John Wesley Powell Expedition I knew that our project would need significant logistical help if we were to succeed. I had worked with Ceiba on private trips through the Grand Canyon before and have always liked their system. Gear, kitchen and food are all organized in an intuitive way so that even if you have never run a river, camp kitchen or expedition before, at least your foundation was solid.
Ceiba Adventures was our main support and logistic center for our 1000 miles, 70-day adventure down the Green and Colorado Rivers in 2019. Our project was made better, knowing that our expedition supply chain was being handled by people who cared for us and our success. By not having to worry about our camp and logistic needs we were able to focus on running rivers, personal interactions and reflecting on the Arid West 150 years after John Wesley Powell’s description of the canyons and rivers. Ceiba Adventures was a part of our team and we thanked them every day from morning coffee to dessert after dinner. As a long river expedition, our needs varied and Ceiba Adventures made those custom adjustments we required. It was nice to know that they were looking out for us.
Rachel, Scott and the whole team, thank you so much for watching and participating from afar. We could not have done it without you. Powell and his crew should have been as lucky as we were to have your support!
